Have you ever looked in a mirror and studied yourself as though you were someone else ? It’s like that for me when I take pictures. Sure, it’s ego to view a person—often for the first time—and look at them for familiar parts within yourself, but after all, portraits are only opinions. There is no such portrait that is an exact likeness. If you show me an image of a subject and the fashion they’re wearing, you certainly show me an image of the photographer.

While this simple idea was taught to me way back in university, it’s still a poignant one when I consider publishing a blog once again. Last April, I did a test with Vanessa where we talked about these ideas and she told me over and over that I should blog, or find some way to document the experiences of meeting a model and taking pictures of them and presenting it in a more intimate format. Of course, the idea itself isn’t novel. I think of Juergen Teller’s book on go-sees, or Hedi Slimane’s diary.

But why not ? I guess I’m not after anything unique with this blog, but it’s nice to just look at images. So, thanks again Vanessa.
